3D file support in Poly

Today we are excited to announce the inclusion of a wide range of 3D file types to Poly. These files are now first-class citizens of the Poly ecosystem. They receive rich, detailed thumbnails, can be peeked and previewed in the UI, and can be read and interpreted by Poly Agent or any agent that connects to Poly. This goes beyond reading the file as text, the agent receives a 3D representation of the file that lets them reason over it.

We're excited to announce a milestone that with this feature, we have now crossed the 200 file type support mark, bringing our total list of supported file types to 208.

Why support 3D files?

As more people without a formal background in 3D have started playing with state of the art models, it has become clear that 3D objects and assets are increasing in relevant and importance. That's causing a resurgence in interest in 3D applications in general but also shining a light on the low quality support for 3D files in modern file browsers. With this release, we are proud to announce that our file type support is to our knowledge the widest of any file storage or even file browsing platform.

The full list of file extensions

This list includes files for which we do more than simply show a blank or broken icon in the UI. In order to qualify, the file type must render a thumbnail, allow for search indexing, or allow for previewing the file in the UI.

🧹 Improvements

• We've introduced a brand new onboarding experience we think you'll love. Of course, if you're already a user of Poly you won't see it, but all the more reason to share it with your friends :)
• We've added full support for importing files from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Box. More cloud storage endpoints are coming soon!

🐞 Bug Fixes

• Previous versions of Poly Mind were rejecting too many file types
• Fixed an issue where searches were not fully reliable and would fail a small percentage of the time
• Addressed an issue where the app would fail to start for accounts created prior to the new agent experience.
