What kind of file is .x?
The DirectX X format is template-driven. Microsoft documents named templates with UUIDs; a header flag can indicate whether following data is text or binary.1 X files can represent meshes, textures, animations, and application-defined objects. The .x suffix is also used by unrelated software.
How do I open a .x file?
Microsoft DirectX tools is the most reliable first choice. Other tools may import a subset of the geometry or scene constructs. Conversion to glTF or OBJ can improve interchange, but may discard materials, animation, application state, or scene relationships.
