What does model/x-x mean?
The DirectX X format is template-driven. Microsoft documents named templates with UUIDs; a header flag can indicate whether following data is text or binary.1 X files can represent meshes, textures, animations, and application-defined objects. The .x suffix is also used by unrelated software.
The associated extensions are .x. The media type identifies this format family; it does not convert bytes or guarantee support for every feature.

Opening and conversion
Use Microsoft DirectX tools or another format-aware tool when preserving editability matters. Modern interchange formats can be useful destinations, but conversion may discard application-specific scene data.
