Getting Started

Installation

Download and install Poly on your desktop or mobile device.

Poly works in any modern web browser with no installation required. For a richer experience—native sync, Finder integration, and offline access—install the desktop or mobile app.

Web

Open poly.app in your browser and sign in. No installation needed. Poly works in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and any other modern browser. Make sure you are not in private/incognito mode (some browsers like Safari disable offline caching in private mode).

Desktop

Requirements: macOS 15 or later, Apple Silicon (i.e. M-series)

Intel Macs are not supported. If you have an Intel Mac, you can only use Poly from a web browser.
  1. Log-in to Poly (you must have an account, see quickstart if you don't).
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file.
  3. Drag Poly into your Applications folder (you must do this as Poly cannot run from another location due to macOS security restrictions).
  4. Sign in with your account and open the app.

After signing in, Poly appears as a location in the Finder sidebar. You can drag files directly in and out, just like any other folder.

You may need to "enable" Poly by going to the sync folder in Finder under Locations. You'll see a banner to enable Poly.
To use Poly files with other applications, you will usually be presented with a dialog asking if you want to open the file from Poly. You can disable this from System settings → Security & Privacy → Privacy → Files and Folders → Poly, and check "Allow full disk access" to avoid the dialog.

Windows and Linux support is coming soon. If you want to be notified when it's available, join our waitlist.

Updating Poly

The desktop app checks for updates automatically. When an update is available, you'll see a notification. Click Update and Restart to apply it, or defer to the next launch.

To check your current version, open Poly and go to Menu → About Poly.
