Notifications

Today we are excited to announce the release of another crucial feature, notifications! Now, whenever you comment on a file in a shared drive, your other collaborators can actually know that you wrote it. Here it is at a glance!

Over the coming months, we’re going to be expanding the breadth of types of notifications that you might receive, but for now we’re limiting the scope to just comments in order to better understand use cases from our user base. The last thing we want to do is make a product that creates spurious notifications and creates mental overhead unnecessarily.

Along with our notification system, we’ve also made it possible to filter your messages in the top left notification area, so you can quickly see what’s unread or limit to only your transfers (uploads and downloads), etc.

As we return from the holidays and see everyone posting their 2025 Travel Wrapped or updating their feeds, you realize nothing these days quite match up to the intimacy of selecting and sending a postcard to commemorate your trips.

Hey, we don’t judge though, in fact one of our favorite ways to send photo albums to friends and family is through a shared folder right in Poly. And now they can be notified too!

Improvements

  • You not automatically subscribe to updates in a way that minimizes communication between the client and server, further reducing cpu cycles
  • We’ve implemented a large back-end improvement that takes advantage of the Rust programming language’s capability for “zero copy” operations to make our platform even more efficient from the inside out. Because our entire stack from top to bottom is written in Rust, that makes your client faster, too!

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where file properties were being requested from the server unnecessarily. The application is now even more local first!
  • Fixed a bug that occurred while displaying file activity

First update of the year!

Join our Discord to share any bugs and requests, and give us your thoughts over coffee, virtually or in person.

Till next week!
