File Editor: View or edit text and markdown files in a rich text editor, with syntax highlighting and WYSIWYG elements

File Editor

Today we announce a small but crucial step forward in the Poly file browser: the ability to edit text and markdown files right from the web app. Desktop users have been able to edit their files right from their hard drives, but you can now edit your files straight from the app. Great for managing your Obsidian notes or for browsing the README.md file an agent wrote for you. Here it is at a glance!

In addition, we’ve beefed up our agent to have more powerful file editing capabilities so your agent can also edit your files while you watch. The editor auto-updates when changes are made, and you can automatically take action on a sync conflict (because of Poly’s version control, no data is ever lost either way).

This is a precursor to a very exciting new breakthrough we’ll be unveiling over the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more information as it comes!

🧹 Improvements

  • Added native tooltips to the UI
  • Improved the capabilities of the embedded agent, which can now make more precise edits to files and take a broader range of actions
  • HTML files can now be viewed on the web, with accurate cross-file imports such as separate style sheets
  • Conversation files now have immersive icons that display a snippet of the conversation
  • The application loads faster and defers various imports better, such as the text editor.
  • Images are automatically OCR’ed and that OCR extract can be natively viewed by the agent.

🐞 Bug Fixes

  • Some users have reported errors while listing directories. That bug has now been addressed
  • “Activity” prompts had some issues after the migration to a new agent experience — that’s now fixed
  • An issue with Gemini-based conversations erroring midway has been addressed but perhaps not fully solved. Please report any mid-conversation failures with Gemini to us so we can continue to investigate.
