What kind of file is .dxf?

DXF is Autodesk's interchange format for drawing data. ASCII DXF stores group-code and value pairs; binary DXF stores the same drawing information compactly. Autodesk documents a binary sentinel beginning AutoCAD Binary DXF and says binary files are about 25% smaller in its comparison.1 DXF can contain layers, blocks, polylines, faces, and other drawing entities.

How do I open a .dxf file?

AutoCAD and LibreCAD can open or import many Drawing Exchange Format files. Check export settings when a model contains materials, textures, lights, cameras, or animation. Conversion can discard format-specific data.

Poly support for .dxf

Poly recognizes .dxf as 3D content and indexes filenames and visual similarity for processed geometry. Scene counts are displayed in the Details panel. Poly's 3D preview and extracted counts depend on supported constructs.

ConstructPoly behavior

Working with .dxf

Keep the source before converting. glTF is a practical real-time delivery target. For CAD or BIM, retain the original exchange file and record its schema or application protocol.
