What kind of file is .zgl?
ZGL is the compressed form of XGL, an XML visualization format for OpenGL-oriented 3D scenes. XGL describes worlds, objects, triangle meshes, materials, lights, textures, transforms, and references. Compression reduces the text representation while preserving the format family.1
The .zgl suffix is paired with the Poly-recognized model/x-xgl identifier and the uncompressed .xgl spelling. Renaming a .zgl file to .xgl does not decompress it.
How do I open a .zgl file?
Use an XGL-aware CAD viewer or visualization application. Legacy software may expect the compressed file alongside referenced images or other resources. Exporting to glTF or OBJ can make a model easier to use in current tools, but may discard assembly or material details.
Poly support for .zgl
Poly recognizes .zgl as 3D content and indexes filenames and visual similarity for processed geometry. Scene counts are displayed in the Details panel. Preview fidelity depends on the constructs and referenced assets available to the decoder.
An optimized rendition of the 3D object or scene is provided to the agent, allowing compact yet information-rich multimodal interaction with 3D files.
