Agent
The Agent panel opens a conversation with Poly's built-in AI agent. Unlike a general-purpose chat interface, the agent has direct access to your files and can act on them — reading, searching, creating, moving, and organizing — all without leaving the panel.
Open the Agent panel with ⌘? / Ctrl+?, or click the Tools pill in the bottom-right corner and choose Agent.
For a full guide to what the agent can do, see Agent.
The conversation header
At the top of the panel, the current chat title is shown. Click the title to open the chat menu:
- Rename: edit the title of this conversation
- Open in full view: expand the conversation to fill the main content area, giving more room for long responses
- New chat (
⌘⌥?): start a new, blank conversation - View all chats (
⌘⇧?): switch to the Chats panel to browse past conversations - Delete chat: permanently remove this conversation
The New Chat button on the right side of the header does the same as the menu item.
Sending a message
Type in the input editor at the bottom of the panel and press Enter (or Return) to send. Shift+Enter adds a new line without sending.
While the agent is processing, a Stop button (■) replaces the Send button. Click it to interrupt the current response.
Inserting files into a message
To reference a specific file in your message, click Insert in the input toolbar. A file picker opens so you can navigate to and select a file. The selected file appears as an inline pill in your message — the agent will read its contents when responding.
You can insert multiple files into a single message.
Setting the context folder
The agent works within a context folder — a folder it can read and write files in. The current context folder is shown at the bottom of the input editor. To change it:
- Click Options (the controls on the right side of the input toolbar)
- Under Context, check or uncheck the current folder to toggle it on or off
- Choose Select a folder... to pick a different folder
When no context folder is set, the agent can still search and read files you explicitly insert, but it has no folder to write to.
Choosing which tools are available
The agent can use several capabilities when responding. You can enable or disable each one per conversation. Open Options and toggle any of the following under Tools:
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| Reading Files | Lets the agent open and read file contents from your storage |
| Web Search | Lets the agent search the web for information |
| Web Access | Lets the agent fetch and read specific web pages |
| Image Generation | Lets the agent create images and save them to your storage |
| Document Editing | Lets the agent create and edit text documents in your storage |
| Media Transcription | Lets the agent transcribe audio and video files |
| Podcast Creation | Lets the agent produce podcast-style audio from text content |
Disabling a tool does not remove it permanently — it only affects the current conversation session.
Search locations
By default, the agent searches your entire Home. Under Options → Search Locations, you can restrict the agent's searches to specific folders or Shared Drives by checking only those you want included.
Offline behavior
If your connection drops, an offline indicator appears in the input area. The agent cannot respond while offline, but you can still read past messages. When you reconnect, the input becomes active again.
