Tools Menu

Activity

View the full history of edits, moves, and comments on any file, and restore or revert past versions.

The Activity panel shows a chronological record of everything that has happened to a file — edits, metadata changes, moves, and comments left by collaborators or the AI agent. It also lets you restore or revert past versions.

Open the Activity panel with ⌘h / Ctrl+h, or click the Tools pill in the bottom-right corner and choose Activity.

Selecting a file

The Activity panel shows history for a single file at a time. If no file is selected, or if more than one file is selected, the panel prompts you to select a single file. The selected file appears at the top of the panel, above the event list.

Event types

Each entry in the activity list represents one event, attributed to the person who made the change and timestamped relative to now (e.g., "2 hours ago"). Events are listed newest-first.

Created — records when the file was first added to Poly. Shows who created it and when.

Updated — records a change to the file's content or properties. Each update entry lists exactly what changed:

  • A tag being added or removed (the tag is shown inline)
  • A property being renamed or given a new value (the new value is shown)
  • A property being deleted

Moved — records when the file was relocated to a different folder. Shows who moved it and the destination folder.

Comment — a text note left by a collaborator or by the Poly Agent. Comment text appears in a bubble below the author and timestamp. See Comments below.

Filtering the event list

The filter button at the top right of the panel controls which event types are shown. Click it to open the filter menu:

FilterWhat it shows
EditsCreated and Updated events
MetadataProperty-level changes within Update events
CommentsComment events
SharingSharing and access changes

All four filters are on by default. Clicking a filter when all are selected narrows the list to just that type. Clicking the only remaining selected filter resets to showing all types.

Restoring and reverting versions

Every edit and creation event has a small action menu. For any event that is not the current version, opening this menu gives you two options:

Restore — replaces the current version of the file with the file exactly as it was at that point in history. The entire file state is rolled back: content, name, and all properties revert to that snapshot.

Revert — undoes only the specific change recorded in that event, leaving everything else intact. For example, if an event records a name change from "Draft" to "Final", reverting it changes the name back to "Draft" without affecting the file's content or any other properties.

Comments

If you have permission to comment on the file, a comment input appears at the bottom of the panel. Type your comment and press Enter (or click Send) to post it.

Comments appear in the activity list alongside edits and moves. Each comment shows:

  • The author's avatar and name (or "You" if it's your own comment)
  • The comment text in a message bubble
  • The time it was posted

The Poly Agent can also comment on files. When the agent takes an action on a file or answers a question about it, it may leave a comment with its response or a summary of what it did. These appear in the list labeled "Poly Agent commented."

Each comment has an action menu for Reply and Delete comment.
