AI-Powered Searching
You can ask the Poly agent to find files for you, using the same natural language you'd use to ask a colleague. The agent combines search with reasoning — it doesn't just return a list of results, it understands what you're looking for and helps you get there.
Searching through conversation
Open the agent with ⌘ / (Ctrl+/ on Windows and Linux) and describe what you're looking for:
Find all contracts that expire this year
Where's that slide deck I made about the rebranding?
Show me photos from the team offsite in Austin
Find the most recent version of the project proposal
Are there any files in my storage about competitor analysis?
The agent searches your storage, evaluates results, and presents the most relevant files — often with a brief explanation of why it thinks each one is relevant.
Asking follow-up questions
Agent search is conversational. You can refine iteratively:
You: Find all the client onboarding documents
Agent: Here are 6 documents I found in the Clients folder...
You: Which of those is most recent?
Agent: The most recently modified is "Acme Corp Onboarding Guide" from March 2024
You: Summarize it
Agent: [reads the file and provides a summary]
When to use agent search vs. the search bar
Use the search bar (press /) when you know roughly what you're looking for and want immediate, visual results you can scroll through.
Use the agent (⌘ / (Ctrl+/ on Windows and Linux)) when:
- Your query is complex or ambiguous and would benefit from interpretation
- You want to do something with the results (summarize, compare, edit)
- You're chaining search with another task ("find and rename all the logo files")
- You want to ask follow-up questions about what you find
Searching within a conversation context
If you've been chatting with the agent about a specific project or topic, it carries context forward. You don't need to repeat yourself:
You: I'm working on the Henderson account
Agent: Got it. I can see several files related to Henderson in your storage.
You: Find the latest proposal
Agent: [searches for Henderson proposals and surfaces the most recent]
