What does model/x-cob mean?
COB is the Caligari trueSpace object format. It has ASCII and binary forms with the same general layout; SAP's format documentation says binary files are smaller and faster for programs to load and save.1 The format can represent geometry, materials, textures, cameras, lights, and animation, but a reader's version and feature support determine what survives import.
COB is an object format, while trueSpace's .scn convention identifies a scene. The National Archives' PRONOM record describes this distinction and the historical Caligari trueSpace family.2
The associated extension is .cob. The media type identifies this format family; it does not convert bytes or guarantee that a reader supports every feature.
Poly support
Poly can recognize this type as 3D content, index filenames and visual similarity for processed geometry; scene counts are displayed in the Details panel, and provide an interactive preview when the file imports successfully. Opening and conversion
